Jake Update: 7:00 p.m. 3/14/16

Update,  update, who’s got the update. Well things are what they are. Sure there are details like numbers and percentages but really, Jake was never really about black and white. He was more of a “color outside the lines” kind of guy. So tonight I’m just going to tell a story about Jake.

I was young, maybe 9ish and Jake was 3ish. So this is clearly a child’s recollection viewed as an adult. Our Dad, Ron, would sing Jake to sleep every night… for several years. Every night at bedtime I would hear him singing. Jake would slowly drift off and Dad would slowly soften his voice until the song was a whisper and then just silence.

From my perspective I thought, and I remember very clearly thinking, “What a friggin baby”. As an adult and a father I think about how sweet it really was. Instead of our Dad just turning on Jake’s TV (THERE WAS NO INTERNET!!!), he sat there on the floor next to his bed and sang a sweet lullaby. This burly, bearded, softball playing business man was there on the floor making his little boy happy and probably making himself happy too. Rubbing his head, scratching his back. Just him and Jake.

This is the song he sang. Of course it was out of tune, the wrong pitch, tempo and arrangement, but his version none the less. I think of this song often. Love you Dad. Love you for being a Dad. Capital-D Dad. Click below to listen…

Hug your kids.

Update: 12:00 p.m. 3/14/16

**Update**… 12:00 p.m. 3/14/16

Day 17 brings us to this:

Now on morphine every 4 hours to control bp. Continue to titrate amount of Cardiem for bp. Slightly sedated with propofol but not as exhausted as we found him yesterday.

Jake is moving quite a bit. His head moves from side to side and his arms and legs are also moving. The neurologist has ordered a CAT scan of Jake’s head. The movements are involuntary and not in response to stimulus of any kind.

Please send Jake’s story to all your Facebook friends as we need all the prayers and support possible.

My name is Jason and I’m Jake’s brother. Our very special father, husband, brother, son, vet and friend Jake Booth needs your help. Jake has been in the ICU on life support at Tampa General since 2/24/16 and before that at NCH in Naples since 2/22/16.

Jake came down with a bad case of Bronchitis that turned into Pneumonia which turned into Double Pneumonia. Jake quickly deteriorated and was left in a medically induced coma. He is currently on life support as he is unable to process oxygen with his lungs and his other organs have failed including his heart, liver and kidneys. His diagnosis is as of yet unknown. Whatever he caught he caught there in the Ft. Myers/Naples area. They are unable to wake him up at this point.

Jake was born in St. Louis in 8/8/1980. He moved with myself and our parents to Minnesota and attended school in Burnsville, Mn before he graduated from Prior Lake High in 1997. He attended the University of Minnesota before joining the Army.

After the Army he moved to Estero, FL and currently resides there. He is a former Collier County Sheriffs Deputy and current computer programmer.

Jake is the father to 6 year old Eva and 10 month old Aiden and married to the amazing Jasmine. All 3 of them need Jake back and we need your help to get him back on his feet again.
